Have you considered how you are using linens and fabrics at your wedding?
What is a linen? Linens can be referred to anywhere that you would use fabrics throughout your wedding styling. So it could be table cloths, table runners, napkins, draping, chair covers, bridal gowns or bridesmaids dresses just to name a few!
A selection of beautiful fabrics and textures entwined within your event really adds the feeling of depth and elegance to your styling! A room styled beautifully to look at is truely incredible, but a room that also considers the sense of touch, a need to run your hands over carefully placed textures will add a whole new layer to your experience, and your guests experience!
From rich, luxurious silk, crisp, clean cotton, dark, heavy velour too softly, flowing organza, the number of fabrics you can use as linen at a wedding to create and enhance mood, texture and style are plentiful. Depending on the purpose and intent that the fabric will need to serve, you may need to select from a range of theatrical fabrics, display fabrics or design fabrics.
Theatrical fabrics, such as velour, commando cloth, duvetyne, sharkstooth scrim, leno cloth, muslin and bobbet’s and nets, are often darker and heavier flame retardant fabrics used to frame stages and work as backdrop materials throughout a venue.
Display fabrics, such as lame, faille, print, moire, damask, brocade, sheers stretch, toile and felt, are fabrics frequently used for the purpose of display. Like how a beautiful piece of textured, eye catching art tells a story with each stroke, the use of a stunning display fabric can do just the same.
Design fabrics, such as chenille, ginghs, madras, canvas, linen, silk, velvet, brocatelle, tartan, wool and tapestry, are the most recognisable fabrics, easily incorporated into specific styles and, when used en masse and/or as accent pieces, they tend to give a beautiful, final look to the room they adorn.
Haven't yet considered your linens? No problems! If you're looking for a little something on trend check out my end of 2015 - 2016 trends for linen! I love the soft, pastel florals and the glitz of featuring areas with glamerous sequined linens! Just remember this rule: When using linens with bold patterns or features such as these trends do select your colour palate first and stay within it using ranges of tones and hues. Mixing patterns (such as geometric patterns) is on trend and very funky, but only works if you keep them the same colour. A mixture of patterns in a mixture of colours is simply sensory overload and will overwhelm your guests and take away from a sense of cohesive styling!
Check out my predictions and overviews below based on my time gathering research this week!
Are you using any luxurious linens? Are any fabrics influencing or driving a theme for your event? Following a trend? Making your own big statement? Tell me all about it!
