#WedPin July Winner!

So, this amazing thing

happened when we were in Africa and I have only just posted it here now because I thought you all need to know!

EndFragment

I won another #wedpin! Yay! July Wedpin. As I've mentioned before, each month the academy I study through runs a competition that gives students and graduates the opportunity to explore and experiment with a design brief that may challenge you to think outside the box! You then collate a range of imagines that tell the story of your interpret the concept.

This month the concept or theme was 'Ship Ahoy'. Here's a quick snipet from the academy page that describes the challenge:

'Of course boating is popular at anytime of the year, but a ‘Ship Ahoy’ wedding theme would be most suitable for Summer, which means that as you Pin images to your board this month, you will find yourself transported to warm days on the water. What I am really looking for this month though, is not just a ‘summer’ boating theme, but something that shows you thinking outside the traditional red, white and blue, ship ahoy box. That doesn’t mean you can’t use those colours, but I would love to see a creative approach to this theme, so do some brainstorming first and see where your ideas take you. Remember, #WedPin is your chance to develop your designer’s eye, so don’t be afraid to get creative with the task.'

So what Ship Ahoy concept did I go with? Check out my concept below, the small mood board I created to reflect my event and then take the link across to my pinterest page to check out the entire collection of images and get inspired!

Ships Ahoy; Paddle Down River.

You make my heart skip a beat like a stone skips upon the river! Paddle down steam, skip some stones and fall in love with this organic riverside wedding concept! #organicisbeautiful #aawep #wedpin #wedding #youmakemyheartskipabeatlikeastoneskipsupontheriver

“I spent a lot of time brainstorming the Ship Ahoy concept and was very much stuck on the red, white and blue colour theme! I ended up walking away from the task and looking back on it in a week’s time. Having that break made me step back and think about what I could create that would better reflect the uniqueness of a couple planning their own wedding. I decided to develop a concept for a Ship Ahoy wedding for a couple who don’t live anywhere near the ocean, instead live upon a river! My white ocean yachts turned into old wooden paddle boats and boat sheds, warm golden sand changed to shiny, smooth river stones and traditional nautical themed decor was replaced by the simplicity and beauty of nature in its most organic form. My new concept was Ship Ahoy, but with an organic, riverside twist. I love how the colour and texture of the smooth river stones are reflected through the beautiful pieces of topaz and black sapphire jewellery and the beautiful deep greens flow so peacefully from the riverside into the decor. To me the whole event feels peaceful and organic and I get overcome by that feeling of complete weightlessness when you lay back in the water, eyes closed, completely relaxed and in love with the moment! I know my concept and board isn’t as crispy and refreshing as you might expect a summer board to be, but for some, spending time in and upon the river is the pinnacle of their summer when a beach is no where in sight!”
