2 & The Same Industries

So I am writing to you from my little computer, on our little desk, in our little studio in not so little London! The forecast was for snow today! But alas, it did not snow. We spent the morning sleeping in and throwing paper planes out of our third floor window into the car park below, just to see how far they would go! Not far it turns out.

Any way, now I am listening to Courtney Robertsons'I didn't come here to make friends: Confessions of a reality tv star' audiobook, the woman who won Ben's heart on the American season of The Bachelor, but was ultimately percieved as one crazy, nasty biatch. Well, I'm listening to that AND completing the first project for my course, introducing myself, my current profession and skills that are transferable to the event planning industry, my goals and desires for within the industry and using my initial understanding of the content of this first unit to style and design my own home office. After the written piece I have to submit a floor plan of my office, colour samples and styles, shopping list ($300 budget for those pieces to spruce the place up) and a mood board to help share my percieved vision. Throughout this first I learnt a little about styling an office, so this project is checking what I picked up I guess! I am not going to say too much, or even put up what I have done yet, simply because I want to get it finished, submit it and get some kind of feedback about how I went before I go showing you all. Even if my feedback is terrible, I will still show you what I've done, there is nothing like constructive criticism and hey, we all have to start somewhere! My only hint is that I understand that MY home office is MY SPACE. It must be styled in a way that I find relaxing and pleasant to work in. There is no right or wrong! For example, my tutor likes lamps that have globes in them that look like candles and the colour red, me not so much! Can you begin to imagine what mine might look like? I bet a lot of you can!

But anyway, let's go back a bit! What have I done so far! This project comes after I have spent time doing all of the required readings, listening to pod casts and watching videos from those in the industry. This first unit was a basic introduction of the knowledge and skills you NEED to be successful in the event planning industry. Quite conveniently most of the knowledge and skill set can be directly related to those skills required to be a successful teacher; effective communication, developing and sustaining positive relationships, knowing your target audience, comprehensive planning and meeting dead lines, just to name a few. So far so good! I can do that and maybe I can do all this! :-) I also learnt how to watch and catch for trends, a basic introduction to styling and the importance of finding a mentor and developing that whole 'it's not what you know it's who you know' kind of address book. No, not just that. It's more about looking to develop a relationship with someone you admire and strive to be. Someone who can guide you and support you through the journey, provide you with creative inspiration when you need it and be completely honest at a time when you need it the most!

So it is back to work to finish off, then out and about for the evening! Watch this space!

Creativity is....jpg
